Useful Information for the Procedure
In case you book an appointment for this specific service, you should be aware of the following information and have the following documents with you.
Required Documents
The collection of registration plates, the registration certificate, and/or the driving licence takes place after the completion of the legally prescribed days of their withholding (Article 106 in combination with Article 108 of the Highway Code – Κ.Ο.Κ.).
A necessary precondition for the collection of the vehicle’s traffic documents by its owner is the payment of the legally prescribed fine.
Required Documentation
Duplicate Receipt from the Cash Office of the Athens Municipality (22 Liosion Street) or a Postal Receipt (if the fine was paid via ELTA – Hellenic Post) or proof of electronic payment via e-banking. Pursuant to Municipal Council Decision 1289/2020 (Government Gazette Issue B’ 5855/31-12-2020), the payment of debts at the Athens Municipality Cash Offices can be made either with payment cards (VISA, MASTERCARD, MAESTRO) or with cheques made payable to the “Dimos Athinaion” (Athens Municipality).
Vehicle registration certificate (original) and a copy thereof, or digital version (MyAuto).
Valid insurance policy and a copy thereof.
Identity card or passport of the holder, or driving licence (originals) and copies thereof, or electronic identification (Gov.gr Wallet).
Vehicle Violation Certificate (Ticket) and a copy thereof.
In case of collection by a third party, a power of attorney certified by a public authority for the authenticity of the signature is required (e.g., KEP (Citizens’ Service Centre), Police Department, or digitally via gov.gr).
For company vehicles, a power of attorney from the legal representative of the company, certified for the authenticity of the signature, is required, as well as the Articles of Association, or the Government Gazette issue of the company’s establishment, or GEMI (General Commercial Registry) details, from which the legal representative is proven.
For leased vehicles (leasing), a valid lease contract is required, from which it is evident that the recipient of the registration plates is simultaneously the temporary holder of the vehicle. If the driver’s name is not stated in the lease contract, the violator must submit a power of attorney from the legal representative of the leasing company, certified for the authenticity of the signature, as well as the Articles of Association or the Government Gazette issue of the company’s establishment from which the legal representative is proven.
In case of the owner’s death, the following are required:
α. Certificate of Inheritance, or
β. Death certificate and Will, or a recent certificate of next of kin (from the last six months).
The collector must bring a power of attorney with the signature certified for authenticity from each next of kin separately.
For the submission in accordance with the provisions of Article 106 of the Highway Code (Κ.Ο.Κ.),of the vehicle’s traffic documents (registration certificate and registration plates) and of the driving licence, the driver, holder, or owner must submit the following:
Copy of a valid insurance policy.
Vehicle registration certificate (original) and a copy thereof.
Driving licence (original) and a copy thereof.
Identity card or passport of the holder (original) and a copy thereof.
The submission of the vehicle’s traffic documents (registration certificate and registration plates) and of the driving licence, as well as the required documentation, may be carried out by a third party who must bring a power of attorney from the driver and/or the vehicle holder, certified by a public authority for the authenticity of the signature.
